FUE Patient flies in from Malta Wants to Help Others Avoid His Mistakes
FUE FAILURE
Johann is kind enough to help others avoid the experience he had prior to finding Dr. Bolton.
Patient History
Had two FUE procedures in Malta of 3000 grafts each procedure.
The first procedure was to the front hair line of 3,000 grafts.
This procedure lasted 10 hours. It looks like about 1,000 hairs grew?
FUE claims to be scarless. It is not. It actually creates more scars and depletes the donor area to a greater degree. They claim you can go to work the next day. That is not true either. Actually you can, but you won't look normal and you will be in discomfort. Falsehood number three is the claim that it is not a surgical procedure. They break the skin with a metal punch similar to the old style plugs 40 years ago.
They have to keep you numb for ten hours plus and some people even return the next day to do it again. Having anesthesia administered into your scalp for ten hours is not pleasant. Fue is
a low yield procedure and they charge more for that service and it is commonly done by folks
who are not doctors. It is very possible that an FUE can be done entirely from start to finish
by a technician and not a doctor.
Dr. Bolton harvested approximately 6,000 hairs in less then 10 minutes. The procedure from start to finish was about 3 hours. We video taped the procedure and we will have it on our site soon.
Johann then repeated the FUE four months later to the crown area. 3,000 grafts again. Ten hours in the chair again and maybe 500 hairs grew?
Dr. Bolton would have gotten perhaps 7,000 or more hairs if Johann did not do the prior FUE procedures.
When you look at the strip that was taken out it has void areas (From the FUE) in a circular fashion where the grafts were punched out. These scars may not seem invasive but they go deep into the scalp and are
fibrous in nature throughout the layers of the skin.

Dr. Bolton's artistic ability and strategy are also different. Rather then sprinkling one hair grafts in the front and sprinkling them in the very back (crown) Dr. Bolton prefers to concentrate the grafts starting in the front and working his way back. This is a normal hair pattern that exists naturally. He averages behind the hair line 6 hairs per graft as compared to most doctors who average 2. These are known as Bolton bundles and the reason for Dr. Bolton's ability to get more results in one procedure then anyone else.
In summary, Dr. Bolton moved 6,000 hairs in less then ten minutes and completed the procedure from start to finish in 3 hours. We look forward to following this case and seeing the results.

The patient came in for a Maxharvest procedure which typically cannot cover one's entire head equally from front through back(crown). Now Dr. Bolton has introduced a new procedure where it may be possible to get total coverage in one procedure. It is called the Maxharvest Plus and it entails moving as many as 14,000 hairs in one procedure when possible. All patients are different in their laxity of scalp, donor density and area that needs to be covered. This new technique enables some patients to get total coverage and thus reducing the the chances that they would need a second procedure.
If this patient had the Maxharvest Plus he would not have necessarily had to come in the second time to put greater density into the crown. Though some can be very satisfied with these results others may want more. It is a personal preference.
