Follicular Unit Extraction is a method where a person, who probably isn't a doctor, will extract one follicle at a time with an instrument that punches or pulls at the skin with the hope of harvesting a viable follicle.
This patient has great donor. Unfortunately, he had a method that is inefficient and poor for harvesting. Even though the patient has great potential it will not be realized and the donor will be harmed. This method is known as the Plug method of donor harvesting. The FUE is a repackaged plug method. The only difference in the method is the punch used to extract the follicles is smaller. Twenty years ago or more the punch was 4mm. Today the punch is 1 mm or less. Both the plug and FUE are inefficient methods of removal of your precious donor hair. The method is high on transection (cutting of the bulb of the follicle) and low on yield of donor hair.
This is what the donor area looks like after a plug procedure
Patient A
Dr. Bolton removed these round scars and left a scar that is not visible. Dr. Bolton was able to yield thousands of more hairs in one procedure then the plugs and in a fraction of the time.
The final results with the punches was minimal coverage, minimal density and no naturalness.
Dr. Bolton was able to cover the entire balding area, achieve excellent density, get total naturalness and leave a minimal scar with no effect on the donor area.
This is the same patient after Dr. Bolton removed his old plug scars and yielded him 8,000 hairs. Note the pencil thin scar that won't be seen when the hair that was shaved grows back and the hair above it is dropped back down. Immediately after the procedure there is no visible scar as it is hidden beneath the hair.

Patient B
Follicular Unit Extraction FUE
Patient B has great donor. Unfortunately, he had a method that is inefficient and poor for harvesting. Even though the patient has great potential it will not be realized and the donor will be harmed. This method is known as the FUE method of donor harvesting. The FUE is a repackaged plug method. The only difference in the method is the punch used to extract the follicles is smaller.
This is the repackaged FUE. The similarities are the round dots, low yield, the inefficient method in removal, the many scars and the damage to the donor area. This particular method will yield minimal results and density. This is not a new method, it is not advanced, and it is not superior. If you can't get a lot of hair, you cannot get coverage, you cannot get density and you cannot get a substantial results.
Sitting in a chair for 10-20 hours over one or two days for a fraction of the total amount of hairs Dr. Bolton can yield in ten minutes is not advanced or superior. The cost of FUE is higher, too.
